MANAGUA
Managua is a city with no names in the streets, horizontal geography and continuous areas filled with trees. It is the beginning of our trip.
Managua is the capital city of Nicaragua. It is located around Managua’s lake (Xolotlán in native language), and around some other lakes too.

Managua is not the main place to know in Nicaragua, despite its very attractive landscape as a result of its horizontal geography and all the forests. It is the city with more trees per capita in the whole of America.

As already mentioned, Managua’s streets do not have names. The system of direction is a method based on the location of references like shops or organizations (where the INTUR is, where Racachaca is…). Sometimes some of these places do not exist anymore (where the drugstore Vida was, where Vicky was…)

The historical centre of Managua was almost destroyed by the earthquake in 1972.

Nowadays there are some of these old buildings which Rutas Escondidas propose to get to know by an urban tour. In this tour we could observe the main elements and places of the city, for example the Old Cathedral, the Palace of the Culture, the National Theatre Rubén Darío, Xolotlán Lake, Tiscapa Lake and the Malecón.

Also we will have the opportunity of getting to know the active night life.
