“LA JIGÜINA” COOPERATIVES UNION
The JIGÜINA COOPERATIVES UNION, in the Jinotega Deparment, is made of 5 cooperatives: La Reforma, 22nd of Septmeber, Nuevo Amanecer, Montaña Verde and La Fundadora.
It is in the north area of Nicaragua where our proposed coffee route takes place.
This union of cooperatives belongs to FECODESA.With other coffee producers, they have done a Certificated Organic Coffee proposal. All of this is supported by the certificated exams of BIOLATINA.
The Jigüinase coffee is grown under the shades of trees, in little mountains. These trees are chosen in order to get the suitable brightness. These trees could be productive ones: cacao, laurel, banana, etc. It contributes to the reforestation and fertility of grounds and it helps to raise the efficiency. Furthermore, with all this the biodiversity is getting better.
The coffee work process is traditional, with a big international grade. It is a handmade planting product instead of a mechanical method.
