WOMEN COOPERATIVE “LA DULCE MIEL” (THE SWEET HONEY)
The aim of Nicaraguan Cooperative “La Dulce Miel” is the organic honey production and other products derivative from honey. Nowadays, it has more than 26 beekeepers that are from Mateare, in Managua and Belén, in Rivas.
“La Dulce Miel” was founded by farmer women, who had low economic resources, in the year 2004. Zaragoza city hall, the IICA(Inter-American Institute of Agriculture Cooperation) and International Agency for United States Development (USAID) all together made an infrastructure investment. They donated hives and technical assistance workshops. All of these resources were coordinated by CANTERA.
The goal of the cooperative is to have enough hives in order to export their products and be strong in the local market.
